Default Attention needed on the steering head?

Last winter, I had the bike sitting on the jack for awhile as I was waiting for new tires to come in and I also put some floating discs on the front and rear. This whole year (I haven't ridden much) there has been some sort of clunk in the front end. It seems to be getting worse as whenever I hit any kind of sharp bump in the road there is a thunk sound and I can't trace it. Do the bearings in the steering head need to be re-packed or could this be something else. I have an 05 LR which from what I thought, didn't tend to have the front end clunk that the new bikes had. I am right at the 10k mark and I know they repack the bearings in the steering head during that service.

Thoughts?

Please refer to your service manual... It is, I believe, 2-4" of fall away @ 100 Lb/Ft tq...

Trying to remember all of those specs is impossible, that is what the Service Manual is for.....

Also, another thing to check is the Fuel Tank Mounting Bolts (Fore and Aft)....
