Default No air, just oil

OK, checking the air pressure in my shocks and front suspension on my 2001 EG Classic, no air came out, just oil. Appears to be hydraulic fluid. Is this normal?

I don't think its normal for oil to come out of the rear shocks, but there's almost no way to prevent a little oil from getting into the air line from the front forks. And since nothing is completely airtight (even your tires lose air), if you haven't added air to them in a while, what was in there would probably have bled down to atmospheric levels.
