Metzeler Disappointment

In my opinion the stock dunlop tires get a very bad rap ! They are fine tires for the money, and they last as long or longer than ALOT of higher priced tires. The metzler tires in my opinion handle better for aggressive cornering, and they are much better in the rain and wet conditions, but they typically will wear a little faster due to the softer rubber compound. It all depends what you are looking for in a tire. Another good handling tire is the continental, at least that was my impression years ago on a old sporty i had back in the 1980s.The key of course is road surface, tire pressures, temperatures, and certainly how you ride your bike. You only got 2 tires contacting the road and your a$$ is on the line, so go with whatever tire BEST compliments your riding style and needs.

Well...
DOT regulations require that a tire used in the North American market for highway use has to have the maximum safe inflation pressure posted on the tire's sidewall. This is true of ANY tire, be it a motorcycle tire, passenger car tire, truck tire, boat trailer tire, etc.
That being said, that number can be different depending on tire manufacturer and tire size. Just check and see what the maximum rated PSI of your tire is. There is nothing wrong with going to the maximum, and if you are loaded down, the tire manufacturer will likely recommended it anyway to compensate for the additional weight.
However, if you are indeed underinflated by a fair margin, then accelerated tire wear can be part of things, too.
Just saying...!
Ride safe!
