ran a venum on a gsxr, really quiet smooth tire, hard tex, good traction for a high mile tire. I personally wouldn't reccomend one for most Harley weight and ride styles???
just my thought...... i can't give any info on your other choice. hope this helps a little.

Ran Venoms on my 96 Heritage and loved their handling cornering, tend to wear out a little faster. They generally need to run higher PSI 42+ range, if you run them in the 30s they will wear too fast. Metzelers on the Fatboy now, handle very similarly to the Venoms have about 5k on them and still plenty of tread.

 

I run them on our Sortail...and on my Road King.

I likes 'em. Keep the pressure up as kishstl said.

 

Avon has a great product if you want the best traction. I have a set on my cycle and after about 5000 miles on them, running 44 pounds in front and 48 pounds in the rear. The rear tire is cupping enough to hear noise when I make turns. They still have lots of tread, but the noise will force me to change them out at 8000 to 10000 miles. This is my second set with the same results. That means I am not upset, because it is a safety trade off.

 

Venoms are the only tire I'll put on my Softail. My current set has around 10-12k miles, and still have a LOT of life left. Having done the sportbike thing, where rears wear out in 2-3k miles, I'm ecstatic! From what I understand, Venoms are the best handling HD tire, although not the longest-wearing. My riding is 80% twisties, at higher speeds, so these suit me perfectly.

 

I love the Venoms on the 3rd set. Will be interested in trying the new Pirelli's. When it comes to the tires there is very little contact keeping your bike on the road buy the best for you riding style.

 

Just put my third set on the EG. What everyone else said is true, cornering etc., but I also like that they don't "track" on tar snakes, iron bridges etc. like the stock tires.

 

Is everyone running the Venom AM42's for the rear and AM41's in the front?

avon make excelent tyres and areat the forefornt of custom bike tyre as well. Avon and Metzler make tyres designed with harleys in mind and belive me out perfom those dunlops harley have you paying through the nose for just cus they have harley written on them.
Just make sure when you get them your supplier getsthe right load index for your harley as both companies make the same size tyres for lighter bikes as well.
