They are built (for cars) from 1.5" or 2" polycarbonate.

Wheel manufacturer is D'Vinci and the price point is around $2000 each.

google D'Vinci Forgiato Radurra for more info.

- I have yet to see anyone seling them, they were just shown at SEMA - so it may be awhile before they are 'market ready'.

As a front wheel set-up on a bike they would be kinda cool, but I can see serious issues with long term appearance as road grime, brake dust and elemental factors would cause a LOT of minor scratching andimpact the look of the wheel over time. If you have a show bike that sits on a trailer or on carpet 99% of the time they would be perfect, but as far as a bike or car that is driven daily/weekly - they would be pretty close to useless.

The bike in the picture looks really cool with clear wheels.

Unfortunately, if you put those wheels on a bike that is actually driven, the wheels will get covered with brake dust, road dirt and mud and will look terrible. After a few cleanings they will also get scratched up and not look so good anymore.

The wheels are great for a bike that's never driven but would look like **** on a road bike after a year of driving.

OK......This is going to sound completely crazy. But isn't that how some really good ideas start?
There's a company that sells crystal clear "shields" for electronic devices such ascell phonesand lap tops. I installed one on my iphone and it's amazing. It is COMPLETELY scratch proof. Yes. I said Proof not resistant. I have purposly tried sctraching this material to see what would happen. NOTHING. It remains crystal clear and scratch free.
I REALLY like the look of those clear wheels. But I agree, the scratches would be terrible.

SO!!!

I wonder if this company would make a set of this scratch proof material for us riders? They say they will do custom applications. So it might be worth calling them if any one of you decide to buy those wheels. (please let me know if you do!)

Anyway, here is the link (remember, they primarily do electronics, but will do custom apps)

Let me know if anyone has the money to try it. I would certainy rock a set of these. But I really don't have the money to experiment.

Thanks, and good luck.
