Default RE: Triple tree rake

To accurately measure for any rake, measurements would have to be taken by establishing the angularity between the holes in the bottom tree to the stearing stem. This could be accomplished by clamping two rods or forks in the lower tree, & then placing the rods on a level surface & checking the steering stem for parrallelism or angularity. This is just one way, there may be alternate methods, but the same features will still need to be the established datums.

Baron, I looked at those & can't figure out what the deal is with them. I even had a local dealership parts guy take them to a service mechanic & check them for rake. He came back & said there wasn't any. I don't really believe they were checked at all to be honest with you.

Maybe rake was reduced by 1.5° for those trees in particular to enhance handling characteristics. Something to think about, if stock treesdohave 2° rake built into them, ifyou buy aftermarket3° triple trees you're realy only increasing your rake by 1°. And if you buy 0° trees you're really decreasing your rake -2° & not truly maintaining the stock rake..........It's all just a conspiracy I tell ya. [8D]

oh well, took the whole front end off. Installed the ultima triple trees but they seem to be out of wack. I can install 1 fork tube but the hole on the top part of the tree for the second tube wont line up at all, if I try to force it in then the triple tree starts binding. Something is definately off. Any Ideas? Anyone?

Are the trees raked by having the stem raked or is the stem square with the trees and the bores for the fork tubes bored at a rake?

Are you sure that the stem is nice and tight? If the stem isn't tight I would imagine that the holes for the fork tubes could be off slightly.

What if you try installing the binding fork first? Does the other fork get bound up? Another thing you can do is pull the trees off the bike, bolt them together and try to slide the forks in to see if it works off the bike.

If the stem hole in the top tree is different than the bottom it would put the fork holes at a different angle (machining issue)

The trees are definately on there good and tight. I tried installing the binding fork first, vice versa and it did the same thing. Here are some pics. Im going to try bolting everything together off the bike now. Thanks Baron!

Damn, that's not even close is it? I would suspect faulty machining.

Yeah looks like one of the holes is drilled "wrong".
