Default Progressive 412 vs 440

Hi all...

I did some searching on the forums for this, and couldn't really find a good answer. I hate to beat the topic, but here goes.....

Is anyone running progressive 412s on a touring bike? I am going to lower my bike for the simple fact that I am not flat footed. First, I considered the HD low profile shocks, but obviously everyone thinks progressives are a superior ride.

I want to put 11.5" shocks on. I can get the 412s much cheaper than the 440s. Cheap is definatly up my alley. I will also be lowring the front 1".

Any pros or cons on the 412s as opposed to the 440s? THanks for all your help!

Default RE: Progressive 412 vs 440

I"veridden them all.440's, 412's, 418's and the most expensive WORKS. In my opinion get the 412's. I would be lyin' if I said I could tell the difference.2 things though, I'm tall and always got shocks an inch or two longer than stock(more travel=smoother ride), and I'm talkin bout FXR's and Sportsters no Glides. I can't imagine the rules of the game change much for the cruiser. When you shorten the travel you get stiffer and harsher. I rideinNYC, some of the roughest roads around, and you will bottom out any shock(thats why that black rubber disk is on every shock). 418's and WORKS are better lookin but on your bagger you can't even see the shocks so get the 412's. I got ripped off on shocks for the last time when I bought the Edelbrocks for my Jeep, same bullshit technology as the 440, inertia damping or some crap. Look it up I'm tellin ya straight theres no difference. I know my boys on the sport bikes spend big money on suspension upgrades but its a whole different animal, 400lb bikes going 160+mph and practically layin down in turns. I always spent for the more expensive thinkin it bought more peace of mind but on a harley a good quality shock is as good as any other at any price and a 412 is a good shock. I would drink beer and debate it till the end. Happy ridin, Bro.
