08 to 07 rear Brembo caliper conversion
I am trying to retrofit a 2008 rear Brembo caliper on my 2007 Streetglide. The front conversion was straight forward with no real problems. I got a set of new take off Brembos on ebay and everything bolted right up. On the rear when I tried to mount the caliper to the bracket the brake disc is about 1/4" too far in towards the wheel. Everything else seems to be fine as far as spacing goes. The dealer tells me the 08's have a different swing arm as well as a different part number for the rear wheel. Has anybody else successfully done this conversion? Any input would be appreciated.

I thought about that but then I would lose the centering effect the brake disc gets from the raised lip on the center of the hub which mates with the disc. Then only the bolts would be holding the disc in the center of the wheel. I wouldn't feel too secure with that set up. I had thought about having a machine shop make a spacer for me with a raised lip to mimick the wheel hub.

I'm not sure about that, the hub and bolt holes should be flush (even with each other) other wise you would be bending the disc as you crank down the bolts.
I had to adjustmy front disc and used washers that were the same thickness, once it is bolted down there really is no difference. Mine is shimmed .090" and already 10,000 miles on it with no problems.

RE: 08 to 07 rear Brembo caliper conversion
I am going to buy one caliper for the rear and one bracket. I am than going to look at manufacturing a bracket to fit & convert the 08 to 07. I have done many brake conversions & this is a project I am interested in. Once I complete this project I will do a How-To on a complete brake change conversion. I already have the fronts. You have to have 300mm rotors, however.

I am trying to put the new style 2008 rear Brembo caliper on the rear of my 2007 FLHX. I have the correct spacers and everything seems to go back together as it should. The only problem is the brake disc is spaced too far in towards the wheel and will not allow the caliper to slide over the top of it. It seems to be offset by about a 1/4" or so. The local Harley dealer told me the 2008 models have a different swingarm as well as a different part number for the rear wheel as well. Has anybody else tried to do this conversion with any success? Thanks for any feedback…Jim

Thanks for the input. I already have a significant investment in the caliper and related parts and I am still considering picking up an 08 swingarm on ebay to see if that would solve the problem. However I may cut my loses if there are issues with the new rear Brembo….Jim

WS6 Formula Thanks, I guess people start multible threads on different sites on the same subject. What type of wheels are you using, V-Rod?
I believe there is where the problem lies. It is maybe within the wheel hub on one side or the bracket. Until I actually get the project in my hand and measure everything, than I can post for all of the people here to benefit. At this point I can only guess and that is the wrong thing to do.
PS, WS6 Formula - Great Job in your project!

FastHarley,
The photos are from a bike show, not my bike. The wheels look like they are from a 06 Street Rod. Lower sliders and calipers are probably from a 06 V-Rod.

jcbjr,
On my bike the bolt holes on the front and rear disc's are counter bored, like this one on eBay, so that willalso self center the disc.

RE: 08 to 07 rear Brembo caliper conversion
I converted my 03 Road King to the 08 Brembos. I also posted how I did it so if you search under my name you can find it. I had no issues like yours. I did have to make a longer spacer (.71) from the wheel hub to the brake caliber. So on the right side its the axle- Brembo mount -.71 spacer- then wheel hub. The rotor aligns dead center to thr rotor.
