Default front wheel applications

will a front wheel off 98 touring bike fit on the 2000-up touring bikes without special modification?
wondering if there was a frame or front fork change from evo to twin cam models where wheels do not interchange from 98 specifically to 01 model?
thanks.

You would need to change the bearing in the 98 wheel to adapt it to a 00 Touring bike (3/4" to 1"). Next will be the rotors. If your going to run Twin Cam rotors on an EVO hub you will need the adapter ring (fill the difference in space)(2.208-1.986). Vulcan works makes some very nice wheel adapters to go either forward or backward in years.

Should you take on this project let me know and I can point you in the right direction to do this without headaches. Seen it, done it, been there before!

Your 2001 FL does have a ¾” axle. [HERE]. If you have a 2000 & 2001 than they are ¾” sealed bearings. The rotor register is 2.23” on the fronts (new style) whereas the 1998 has a smaller register due to Timken Tapered bearings. A 2000- current wheel bearing housing is 52mm. On a side note, you can never put a 2000 & 2001 (3/4” axle wheel) onto a 2002 – current bike. The 1” axle bearing spacer can not fit inside of the wheel (00 &01). Hope this helps.

If you wish my advice, stay away from the <2000 wheels. Do another project with your money IMO.

Again, that rotor register problem. 2nd, your axle is a 25mm (16 thousands less than 1” aprox.) Will a (1.225" wheel bearing axle spacer fit inside the wheel. You need these.) Buy the right hub. Who said you could not buy a late model hub (your finish choice), re-spoke with the spokes of your choice, than buy the correct rim of your choice? If you have a friend who knows how to lace a wheel, you are good.
