Changing handlebars...how difficult is it?

RE: Changing handlebars...how difficult is it?
Just put low profile drag Chubbys on my FXST. Can't say enough about the quility and fit. I did the internal wireing and s.s cables to. Do your-self a favor and get the mainual. Worth every penny. Get the "official" Harley not after market ones because they are not specific on a lot of things. Not that hard just a lot of time. Picking those electrical connections was a b##ch!! On my bike didn't have to leighen wires. Got lucky. Good luck!!

I had the exact same change made as Sincecrazy except I had the dealer do it. I'm very limited on time so it was well worth it for me to drop off the bike and pick it up a few days later with the mods already done. Wasn't cheap but worth it for me. The bar swap would be easy but the internal wiring and all new cables, I think that could be pretty hairy.

RE: Changing handlebars...how difficult is it?
rdking, I put a set of road king custom bars on my road king. They have about a 13 inch pull back (I think thats what they are) and they have a similar pull back as the wild ones, which is what I was looking at before I bought the RKC ones. I did not have to extend the wiring harness. If your bike is new there will be wiring harness connectors inside the headlight nacelle. Worst case is you will have to get the electircal extention kit they sell at the dealer, I dont think it costs very much either. If the info with the bars say you dont have to replace the wiring then I think you will be alright. Good luck. Oh and buy the way, I am no mehcanic but I too turn wrenches for fun, so if you have some basic mechanical skills you should be fine.
