Default Removing glued on grip for reuse...

Well...
Now I feel dumb.

JUST last weekend I put a new set of Kuryakyn ISO's on my bike... but now Im swapping out bars for a set of aftermarket bars and want to keep the ISO's

Am I about to wreck a perfectly good set of grips if i try and remove them? I used the included "death grip" glue to install the clutch side.

Obviously the throttle side is good to reuse.

You can try the trick of shooting compressed air between the rubber of the grip and the handlebars. You'll probably have to remove the switch housing to accomplish it tho.

You could try a heat gun on the bars about 3-6 inches away from the grip with you hand ready to twist the grip off. Heat may loosen the bond enough to do the job. Wet rag over the grip to cool the outer parts wouldn't hurt, and of course remove the switch housing as mentioned. Just ordered a set for my softail. How do you like them?

thanks guys...

pretty much the best grips i have used. I put the throttle boss on both sides just to keep it even and it seems i dont need to wrap my hands around the grips much anymore. My hands were getting tired hanging on to those stock plastic grips but this is night and day... and looks way better too.

donk_316 :Those plastic grips are a bitch after 50 miles. Did you find the throttle boss to be in the way for normal hand placement . I looked at them and changed to regulars. I can still change the order if you feel it's a none issue. As in your case, I was going with one on each side. I have this mental problem with needing things to be matched.

nah they can be adjusted up or down for what fits you best. i adjusted mine down (rotated down) and its nearly a non issue. obviously you will feel a little bump in your palm but its benefits outway all that

I totally understand your need for balance.

Easiest way is soak the grip in really hot water. It will loosen it enough that with a little elbow grease it will come off.

i bought a fxdwg from a police officer a couple of years ago that he had changed the handlebars and grips on and he did not glue the grips - he simply put a large flat rubber band around the end of the handlebar (looped it several times) and forced the grip over it. i still have the bike and the grip does not move at all after 5 years. if you know to feel - you can faintly feel the flat rubber band through the grip if you are looking for it, but otherwise it has never been noticed by anyone, including me when driving. it has the iso-grips with the throttle boss on both sides, and i really like them.

he said that made changing out the grips much easier. i have not tried to remove the grip so i don't know if it actually does come off easier or not.
