Default TIRE TRED DEPTH QUESTION???

I own an 06 Nigh Train my HD tech took tred depth measuremnts on my Metz ME880 210 rear tire during the 1,000 service. He said the tred depth was 5. something and he said it should be 7 something my front a Metz 90/90 was 4 something .These tires still have most of the outer nubs still on them the tires and bike for that matter only have 980 miles on them. The tires were new and were put on when I bought the bike.I am just curious if there are different tred depths from Dunlops to Metz maybe he was reffering to Dunlops measurments? Do different tire manufacturers have different measurments?

Yes different tyres from different manufacturers will have different depths, in fact different models of tyres from the same manufactures may also have different tread depths. The thing to consider is the wear bars or 1mm of tread depth which should be considered the absolute minimum.

To give you an example,my touring owner manual says to check at the wear bar.Replace at 1/32".
You should look for specs for the Mets.May be metric but can be converted to inchesby dividing metric # by 25.4.
