And a "rebuild" is now just a fluid change on the forks at 20K miles. The cartridges have to be sent back to manufacturer for a rebuild, along with $100-200, and at least a week of down time.

That is the setup I have on mine. I am very happy with my Ohlins NiX cartridges up front, and the 044s in the rear.

I'm on a Heritage Softail, I realize it's not the same bike as yours, but I can tell you the Ohlins shine at highway speeds. Didn't really notice much difference in comfort, but I haven't changed any of the dampening settings from what was recommended.
On the highway the bike felt more stable and expansion joints at bridges did not unsettle the bike. Expensive but worth it in my opinion
