Default Aligning the rear wheel

Can anyone tell me the best way to ensure I have my rear wheel aligned correctly?
After removing the axle bolt I noticed the adjustment ring in the bolt head side fits perfectly (on the shoulder of the bolt). But on the nut side it doesn’t sit on the body of the bolt, it rides on the threads. Because of that, you can’t count the threads on both adjusting screws to ensure the axle is straight (the two bolts will not be equal).

Measure from the center of the swingarm to the center of the axle on each side. I have a bent 5/32" brass welding rod that I use to measure with.

Bend the welding rod 90 degrees about 2" from the end. On the long end put a small nylon wire tie. Make sure the wire tie is snug but able to slide up and down the rod.

Put the end of the short end of the rod in the middle of the Swingarm bolt. Slide the wire tie down the rod until it is in the center of the axle. Go to the other side and repeat. Adjust each side accordingly until the wire tie comes out the same distance from the Swing arm bolt on each side.

If you are doing a Dyna, there will be a hole in each side to the swingarm about 12" from the axle. Use that hole instead of the center of the swing arm when you do the measurement.

Regards,

Bill

Rusty, Make sure you get enough tension on your belt. Or you will get a schooo schooo schooo sound when you decellerate or coast.
