Default Softail Rear Shocks - Setting

Do the rear shocks on Softails have detentes or are the shocks continuously adjustable? I want to increase the firmness for two-up riding so need to adjust them. I have the spanner wrench, just have never made any changes to the rear shocks. Thanks.

If you adjust the preload about two turns tighter than stock depending on the weight increase, you should be in good shape. There's no detent on the shocks, you can mark them with a piece of tape to keep them equal.

If I am pessimistic and don't know here the shocks are set now (could be standard, not sure), do you recommend, all the way soft and then turn firmer? How many turns from one end to the other? Thanks.
