Default Sportster 883Low shock replacement for a light rider

OK, I know that replacement shocks have been questioned and answered before. I have a specific circumstance that I wish to get feedback on. I have a 2007 883Low and I am a 5'-6" 155lb rider. I ride solo so no two-up concerns. The sporty is running stock front and rear shocks. I am looking at upgrading to progressive shocks both front and rear. Because it is a Low the 11" standard shocks have little play to begin with. Will replacing them with progressive 412 or 430 shocks make any difference? My research says the 430's have a softer ride which I am looking for, but most running these are using the 12" or 13" length. If the 11" will not give a ride enhancement I would rather spend the money on other bike upgrades.

Any "light" 883 low riders out there that have swithed up their shocks?

Unfortunately most suspension brands do not offer products that will fit us all. It would be worth calling Progressive, to see what they suggest for you.

Personally I recommend you use Race Tech fork springs. They offer different spring rates including a set for your weight. For a similar price you will get springs better suited to you, with the bonus of smooth motion over the full range of fork travel.

Shocks are a challenge, partly because there are so many cheap options available, which can lure the unsuspecting rider into frustration and spending a lot of money! How determined are you to improve ride quality?

Thank you for the response. I was going to give Progressive a call, but I anticipate they will tell me their shocks are "great" and a substantial improvement over the stock shocks.

We have an alternative solution, which is to use HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal. Howard there can build you shocks to match your weight, although they are more expensive than most Progressives!
