When I greased mine it too took about a tube of grease. As for the type of grease...I used a general purpose grease as the bearings are not high heat , like wheel bearings.

Default Zero fitting

I had no problem greasing mine. It was totally dry and pretty stiff, what a difference.
I just turned steering fully to right and had a straight shot after moving cables. I don't think it had ever had a service prior to this.
