Safety question about lowering my RK

Default Safety question about lowering my RK

Hello folks. I have a 2004 Road King Classic. I've already replaced the stock rear shocks with progressive 11". My short legs are still a lacking just a bit. I'm in the process of getting a new seat which is more narrow at the front to allow me to keep my legs in a little better which should give me a little length reach. However, I want to know given the shock replacement, would it be unsafe to put a lowering kit on the back and lower it one more inch? I'm about 300 lbs and my lady is about 175.

Personally I wouldn't use lowering blocks. You may even find that your short shocks will give you both a poor ride. You're doing the right thing with a modified seat and if you find that doesn't work quite right then get it modified for improved leg reach. My next suggestion would be to look out some sturdy thick-soled boots, partly to improve grip and confidence, but also give you that little extra reach.

I've never been able to flat-foot my Glide, it's not all it's cracked up to be! I keep longer shocks than yours, to maintain ride quality and cornering clearance.

11 inch shocks with drop blocks will have you bottoming out and you will NOT be happy. Get the thickest soled boots you can get and then go to a cobler and add 1/4 to 1/2 inch additional sole. I ride a street glide with 12 inch shocks and a 1 inch drop front and rear. Added a 1/4 inch to my boots and still cannot flat foot. However with lots of riding I have been able to control her with no issues. It's about knowing how to ride and stop. Now, backing up on an incline or soft gravel is a different story. As height challenged individuals, sometimes we just need an extra set of hands to back up.

Being another short-**** I learned to get off and do that beside the bike from an early age. There are no bike training courses that advocate backing up from the saddle that I know of!
