Default Greasing Steering Head

How much (how many pumps) great do you guys put in the steering head? Mines got the grease fitting there. Doing the first service today and put a few shots of grease in it. There was no resistance to pumping grease in and nothing came oozing out anywhere. What's your technique for servicing this? Thanks guys.

What bike are you referring to?? My 2011 FLHR took about 1/2 tube of grease when I filled it...

I believe that the bearings alone are greased during building. The head is not filled with grease so it takes a good amount to fill the empty space before it squishes out.

This is what I've also read here in the forums. What I did was use a rag (some use rope) and tie it around the lower side of the neck tube at the gap between the front end and the neck tube essentially "sealing the gap" so grease won't exit there and start filling the tube with a grease gun until I see a bit of grease start to ooze from the top of the neck tube. If it's totally empty it will take a bit of grease before you fill it up.

Yup...kept pumping and it finally squeezed out. Mine actually started out the bottom and the top evenly. Seems like a poor design; you have to pump that whole head full just to get grease through those two bearings. Oh well.
