Default Do I have to put up with this?

I have wanted a 48 now for a long time. I did some research and was aware that reviews commented on how hard the suspension was. But I liked the look of the bike so much I went and bought one new last Feb. I still think the bike is a work of art, but I have done some miles on it now and I can't believe just how bad the suspension is considering how much I paid for the thing. Is it possible to make it more comfortable to ride by changing the shocks. I have read reviews about changing to Progressives but does it make that much difference. I know it's never going to be a tourer but surely it should not be this uncomfortable!!

Help!

The Harley 2 up low profile shocks works wonders to your ride. Don't let the two up fool you I never rode two up and only weigh 160 lbs. I tried all kinds of shocks these worked the best and were the cheapest part number 54704-07

Hi Patrick from the UK and welcome to HDF. Which Maidstone is that?

As for your suspension there are a number of comments. The forks and shocks probably both collapse too much when you sit on your bike, taking up much of the travel they have. If you fit single-rate springs matched to your weight up front and set the sag correct you will at least get improved travel. Add some Intiminators to improve damping.

For shocks you get what you pay! Budget shocks are what you have at present and if you replace them with cheap shocks you may be wasting your money IMHO. For a worthwhile improvement back there consider spending extra on decent quality shocks, rather than doing what many members do - trying several cheap shocks and never finding nirvana!

Thanks for responding and for the advice. I am in Maidstone in Kent which is in South East England about an hour south east of London, although I'm from Ireland originally and moved to England in 2007.

I bought a new set of Progressive shocks yesterday and am going to fit them today. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'm about the same distant to the North! You could have bought your shocks from Hagon, about midway between us.......

I went Ricor suspension on my Nightster. Short answer is no, the stock Harley stuff is garbage and you can get better suspenders for sure.
