I have Adblock Plus on Chrome and FireFox, also have Simple Adblock on IE. Chrome is my main browser and it's not slow ever since I added the extensions. If you use IE without Adblock then it must go real slow.

Ad-Block only works on IE for a few days, then it asks for $$
or it will only block three or four adds a day. Not worth the trouble.

Well, the add-on...yes. But adblockplus can work for IE permanent..and free....if you use it at the gateway. Some linux router/firewall distro powered routers that, along with many other things like antivirus scanning, spyware blocking, can also run adblock at the router. All computers behind the router, regardless of OS and browser, benefit the ad free browsing experience.

According to something I read after installing Simple Adblock for IE, the free one only blocks 200 ads per day. It says you can get the Simple Adblock Pro to go past that 200 ads and block unlimited ads. That's the one that cost. I think the 30 day thing you're thinking of is that it blocks an unlimited amount of ads per day for 30 days, after that it's only 200 ads per day. That doesn't bother me anyways since I use Chrome as my default and main browser, I only use IE to add bookmarks as an actual file (since Chrome does save them as individual files like IE does when theyr'e added to your Favorites file). It's not a hassle when I add bookmarks in both Chrome and IE just so I have actual files. The actual files are also good when you have an external backup hard drive.
EDIT: I checked up on what I said. I opened IE and clicked the Simple Adblock icon in the lower status bar and then clicked "activate" (as if I paid for the Pro version and wanted to enter a product key).
This is what i says:
"The Free version is limited to blocking 200 adrequests per day.
To enjoy unlimited adblocking, please support the Simple Ablock project by
upgrading to the Pro version."
