Default WLG engine in a WL solo frame

Hi all. I need some of your input. I have the opportunity to pick up a flathead bobber for 4k. After doing some research I found out that it is a 1945 WL frame but has 1952 WLG engine. These were used in servicars and were geared a little lower do you think that is a good deal? Or should I counter with something lower, say 3k?
Thanks

if changing some gearing ( front motor sprocket if its not been done already ) has you put off you should not consider an antique bike as its a labor of love and your pockets will be lighter, in short order --

if you dont want it let me know as i am, and also in jersey and would be interested only if your not, had a 1952 and we are re doing a 1955 GL 3 wheeler right now - johnjzjz

I don't have a problem putting money into it or working on it. And I can do the work. Just wanted to know if a g series engine in a solo frame would be worth less

the WLA is the only one that brings any money, i sold on last year late production WLA 70,000 chassis number for 18,000 and could have held out for more but sent it on its way

the rest of the 45s some years bring a little more than others but none bring real money you will with ease overtake its value if not carefull about spending - johnjzjz

Thanks buddy. I appreciate the info I'm not looking to make money. It's just been my dream to own a vintage harley. Just never had the funds, but 4k is within my budget. And I have a guy I'm friendly with that restores early Harleys that can hook me up if I need assistance. if the deal goes thru ill post picks. Or if you aren't that far from maybe I'll stop by

Bob, sorry I can't help much with pricing but I’m not sure what you mean by a WLG engine. Are you saying the engine is stamped WLG as part of the serial number?

Depending on year, H-D stamped some solo engines as WL, WLA, WLC etc and they stamped some Servi-Car engines as G, GA etc but the only engine I know of that was stamped as WLG at the Harley factory was a 43WLG. However, it was done by mistake and the engine was soon removed from the frame and a replacement engine installed that was stamped 43WLC.

Other engines I know of that are stamped WLG did not have their serial number applied by Harley but instead their serial number was stamped by persons unknown.
