Default Andrews 37g vs. 26g

I know there's probably a ton of this info on this forum aleady but I'm too lazy to search for it.

I am swapping out the timing chain for a gear drive. The question I have is 37g or 26g. I called Andrews and they said that either would work well but I'm looking for real world feedback. Have read a lot about the 37g being prone to ping on baggers. Don't know how well it would work on an FLSTC

I have an '02 Heritage. Stock except exhaust drilled and carb jetted.

Would appreciate hearing opinions and experiences.

the way it was explained to me the best (not my words a really good mechanic) was that if your going to two up alot and the old lady ways more than130 and your a fat a$$go with the 27 butbut if she is small and dont ride alot two up the 37 was the way to go because its cam that runs betterwhen beating the throttle, the 27 is more of a torquey cruiser cam. i hope that helps i still havent made up my mind yet. There will be alot better answers on here than mine i asked this question a couple months ago and got some good answer on alldifferent cams.

88 or 95in's ????? If your running 95in id run the 37s. If your riding alot of twoup bags loaded then run the 26's The 26 cams will give more right off the bottom and have good mid range but sign off after that. if you like a cam that keeps right on pulling the 37's are the cams for you. The 37s will be slightly weaker off the bottom though. but not much.

I rarely go 2up but opted forthe torque of the 26g. I want my nipples to invert when I hit 2nd and 3rd.

If you are going 95" and doing headwork to get your compression up to around 9.7, then I would go with the 37G. If your keeping stock heads, stay with the 26G.

Since it sounds like you are just swapping cams, go with the 26. I really like mine.It pulls like a freight train, even when riding two-up and loaded with about 75 lbs of luggage.

I've had the 26G's in my build, and they just dye too quick on the top end....and the pinged at 9.6-1.

I would recommend looking at the Head Quarters HQ-0034G cams.

I'm very impressed with them so far, more power through-out. Getting the dyno done Saturday, that will tell the full story.

You better talk to PhilM. I am in the process of doing cams on my bagger and he convinced me to go with the HQ 0034 and not the 37's. The 34's allow head work, work well with a 95 kit and perform much better than the 37's. He absoloutly would not put in 37's in a bagger due to pinging and limitations of future upgrades. I trust his opinion, and he was very persuasive in his arguments against the andrews product and for the HQ.

That pretty well sums up my opinion.... but there is definately a place for the Andrews 26's. As was mentioned above, with stock heads & compression... the 26's are awesome. THe Andewrs 37's are probably OK in light bikes with properly built engines.... I have also had great results from Andrews 55's in a couple builds, but they were much hotter that what we are talking about here.

As Steve & Joe mentioned, the HQ-0034 is a very good and versatile cam. It's good as a bolt-in and just gets better and better as you add compression and heads....

As I always say, choose components that COMPLIMENT one another and you'll be fine!
