Default 2006 TC88 ANDREWS 21 VS 48? if not doing 95"

Hello, In process of upgrading tensioners, cam plate etc.
So as title states, How would the 48 cam choice be in an 88"? Not too much feedback on that particular cam. Is it noiser than the 21 or 26 with the extra lift?

Also any feedback on the huge exhaust/intake duration split as compared to the 21? What does this affect? Do different exhausts work different with the narrow vs wide splits? You see woods cam with no split and some such as the 48 with huge splits......

If I do happen to go 95" I had planned on a 26 cam, but am on the fence about tearing down the good running 88"er.
Or should I just be looking at the 26 either way?

Thanks for your help, Brian

All cams listed are fine for a bagger, I had a 21 in my 09 Electra glide 96" and it was fantastic for a mild cam.

The extra lift with stock heads is almost a non-issue as they don't flow much better past .500 lift anyway. 48's "split" timing works pretty good in stock low compression motor to make good torque down low and carry a little more to the right. I'd run 48s in late 88 over 21s or even 26s. Going 95/98 changes everything.

I agree with oldhippie but don't discount the benefit of the higher lift. With the '06 heads, in stock condition, flow does flatten out a .500" lift but continues to flow at the same rate to .560" lift. So there is some benefit to be gained from the higher lift; as long as the intake valve is open, the heads are still flowing. I would run the 48 over the 21/26 in an 88"er as well but would also consider the S&S 551.

EDIT: Or S&S 509; Scott reminded me. Haven't run either one but the 509 is probably a better choice for an 88"er than the551.

I run the 48N cams in my 2005 88" Deluxe. Nice broad torque band and quiet ( I replaced the lifters too). This bike is very smooth for a Softail and the cams provided a nice bump in power.

I don't think you'll have any issues going to 95 with these cams. They run very strong in my 2010 96", and I've seen impressive dyno curves on all 3 combos (88, 95, 96). As you can see, I like the 48 cams and you probably will too.

Thumbs up

Just put S&S 509s in my 2000 FLHT along with the SE hydro camplate. So far I've been pretty impressed. Couple hundred miles since I installed them.

Runnin 21's in my 2006 88". Nice bump but with a 2n1 the bump was more obvious. Bought the cams used, good way to get more for less.

I am looking at doing the same, installing the 48 cam in my '06 FXDL. I wanted to do the cam now and maybe go to the 95 or 98 BB later, but was informed that I couldn't do it with the 48, would have to change cams with the higher compression (even though I was going to keep comp to 9:1 or 9.5:1.)

You were misinformed. Go ahead with your plan; you can run the 48 with either 95" or 98". Just keep static CR below 9.6 and install compression releases.
