Did you remove breathers?

Got it! Had to pry back of engine down slightly to get it out, zero clearance!

Thanks!

I did the same thing last year, fought for an hour. Googled my problem and had it out in one minute.

I used the exhaust support bracket mounted on the starter, it didn't take much.

It1-xjs,

Thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. I'm feeling a bit like a noob. I understand what you are saying about using the rear exhaust support bracket as one point. What are you using for the second point? In other words, what are you prying against? I already managed to put some small gouges in the lower rocker box trying to muscle it in and don't want to do any serious damage.

Other than that, the job is going well. I installed new Johnson Hylift lifters and TP roller rocker arms. I had a bit of an upper end rattle that I hope this will reduce.

Thanks,
Garrman

I put the pry bar between the triangular bracket on the starter and the frame. Use a rag or card board, it should push forward and down, slide it out the right side.

Yup, placed a three foot digging bar with a flat end against the rear of the lower rocker box and the frame. One gentle push and it slid right in.

Thanks for the tip, it saved me a bunch of grief. I will post when the job is finished.
