Default exposed air filters (s-e heavy breather )

question to those who run an exposed filter like those on the s - e heavy breather and various other air kits, have you guys been caught in the rain and if so was it light rain heavy rain and how did the bike run?? did it suck alot of water in the engine, im thinking about upgrading to the heavy breather on my softail , thanks for any input steve

You have to get the rain sock and keep it with you everytime your ride. If it rains pull over, slip it on and off you go! I would definitly not ride with my SE breather w/o the sock when it rains, slight drizzle is fine.

Like Scott said...they will save you a lot of grief. I was riding out to the Canadian East Coast 3 years ago and just installed the Zippers MaxFlow deep element and it was completely open. My dealer told me to go with the rain sock that came included with the HD Skull No 1 cover, and I rode through some incredibly heavy down pours through Nova Scotia, Quebec and Cabot Trail....no problems what so ever. Don't think I would have had the same luck, had I not had the rain sock. Definitely a must have....imho.
