Revs

RE: Revs
Ok, here is what I have checked so far.
With the engine off I hear the stops (both) and it snaps back fine.
When I move the bars from stop to stop the idle doesn't change.
I also poured water on the intake and the idle did not change any, but I"m not sure I did it right because the engine oil was at 150 degrees so the water evaporated quickly. Should I do the same thing on a cold engine?
I did not try the fuel petcock vaccum yet.
Here are some new things that I noticed. Returning back to idle is not jagged in all locations. When I rev up the engine to 3K rpm it will go down to 2K rpm smooth and will start to turn jagged going down to 1K rpm. So while going down to 1K rpm from 2K rpm the needle may pause briefly go down a little, pause again and so on. Is that what you ment by having a slide sticking a little (since I have no idea what a slide is)? How would I fix the problem of the slide sticking?
Here is something else. My bike tends to run hot. On the highway it will reach temps of 250-260 degrees, but my oil temp dipstick is off by a little over 20 degrees so the bike is actually running 270-280 degrees. And this is a sportster motor.
