Default Problem with inner cam removal tool, doesn't fit?

I'm doing a tensioner shoe upgrade/cam swap on a 05 road king and am at the point where I need to remove the inner cam bearings. I bought the tool from Heartland Products, but it seems like it doesn't fit. The collet diameter is such that it will not pass through the bearing... Am I supposed to force it through? That doesn't seem like a very good idea. I really, really don't wanna send one of those needles into the crankcase.

Has anyone used this tool before? Am I missing something, or did I possible receive the wrong tool?

You do have to push the collet through but it should not be difficult. I agree with Jurgie; sounds like you have the tool for the 1" ID cam bearings and you need the tool for the .875" ID cam bearings. Take Jurgie up on his offer to swap or buy the correct collet.

I put a caliper on the tool, maybe it just takes more pressure than it looks like it does in the videos I have watched.

On the smooth part of it (that would remain inside the bearing) it is .875". The area at the far end, where the 'jaws' are, it measures .925"

Sounds like I have the right tool, but just need to apply a little more force? This is giving me a case of the nerves....

My tool (LOL) is not the Hearland one but, you have to remove the center mandrel before pushing the tool into the bearing then reinstall the center mandrel.

make sure you have the pin out of the center of the tool, just give it a slap with your hand,it`ll go thru.(the later tool will be too big to the eye)

I made it work, and didn't use the center piece when installing, but something is definitely not 100%. It needed way more force than it should have. It's on it's way back to the manufacturer right now for exchange.

im sure theres nothing wrong with it,they can go thru kinda hard sometimes, the end, that actually pulls out the bearing has got to be bigger than the bearing or it wouldn't work

I use the tool from Georges Garage and generally have to give it a whack with a rubber mallet to get it through the bearing. No problem - works fine every time.

I bought that Heartland cam bearing installer/remover too. Have not used it yet, so this thread is helpful - a few instructions with the tool might have helped but none are included.
