Default stage 1

I have a 2012 Ultra Ltd I want to add a stage 1 high airflow cleaner on to it I have Cobra slip-ons now Will I need to remap engine and add a race tuner? I was told by S&S that it would not be necessary and I was told by a HD parts man that I would need to use a race tuner for fear that the engine will run too hot? dazed and confused See ya

You should add a tuner. It doesn't have to be the race tuner as there are several good ones available..

The HD guy is selling up but you should add a tuner/fueler. For a Stage I upgrade, you do not need one of the more sophisticated tuners like the SERT, TTS, SEST, etc. A Dobeck fueler, Gen3 or 4, is adequate, DIY install, good customer support, no dyno time and you can self tune.

The bike was lean tuned from the factory and a Stage I upgrade will further lean out the AFR and the bike will run hotter, so do yourself a favor and get at tuner.

There is a confusing choice of add-on tuners available! The SE race tuner your dealer referred to is able to deal with much more serious changes to your bike than those mods you mention, however it will also be a decent choice if you plan further changes in the future. So give some serious thought to that. Buy once, not every time you add stuff - like cams, bigger cylinders, ported heads, etc.

+1 exactly like gbrown mentioned.

When I decided to go with my Thunder Max tuner I knew I would be doing major work to my bike. You have to decide how far you will go with your bike's performance parts, which will GREATLY narrow down your choices.

You already have free flowing exhaust, When you add a free flowing air cleaner you definitely should add some sort of tuner that will keep you from running so lean.

There are a lot of choices.

This link gives a basic overview at the beginning.

If your bike is running great and the work was done at your Harley dealer, they probably did a download to your ecm. Otherwise with a swapped exhaust, air cleaner and cam, your bike would run like crap.

Yeah, that is correct. I figured that was understood when I said the bike runs great. But back to the original reason for my post, would getting a tuner make any difference? Or should I just go about my merry ways?

My advice is always to leave a bike that runs great alone!
