Which Cosmetic .030" Top End Kit for S&S 106

Why is wanting to use a .030" gasket being picky, everywhere I read about optimal squish says shoot for .030 to .035 for best results? I am really kinda surprised that S&S supplies a .040, is it to be super conservative?

S&S has been around a long time making tuning kits and engines, however HD Bobby seems to be going beyond using the kit as supplied.
