Help me build my 103
Loaded question I know...and I'm ready to be flamed...but my mind is spinning right now with options...last month when the hillside 107 was up for sale I should have bought it, but I didn't act fast enough and the heads sold. What would be the best setup within reason for a 103 with some get up and go? It's going into my '11 Street bob with a V&H ProPipe HO, Ness big sucker, and power commander 5 on it already. I always ride 1 up, and weigh less than 200 in full gear. I'm thinking about picking up some SE jugs, pistons, and heads with necessary gaskets then deciding on a cam (which seems to be difficult). I keep coming across good deals on random parts I need, but don't want to buy a bunch of good parts which in the end won't play well with each other...anyone care to share their thoughts? Thanks.

It took me a couple of years to collect al the parts and then raise the $$ for the Build, I wanted to do it myself but lack of proper tools and the EX got the garage so I had it built, started with a SE 103kit for a EFI softail, sold the parts I did not need and bought a SE forged 103 Crank that I had welded, ended up with an S&S G carb but don't like it S&S easy start cams that I do like! I am happy with it, I could have bought a 120 crate motor for what I invested but I know exactly what is in my motor and it runs like a bat out of hell

You think your mind is spinning now? Wait until everyone posts their suggestions for your build.
Only suggestions I have are that why stop at 103"? Same cost to go with 107"; 4 more cubic inches for free; select cams that will perform in the rpm range where you spend most of your time; build around the cams and headwork.

Thanks. I had a good deal on a set of SE 103 cylinders and SE Pistons with my choice of cams...and didn't want to pull the crank to have it welded. I'm was originally set on a 107". I'm looking for 110ish HP AND at least that in torque. Rpms 2500-6ish. Was gonna jump on the 103" cyl n pistons and a set of SE 103+ heads....but....damn I'm confused.

SE 103+? What heads are you referring to? Why not have your heads ported? Have your cylinders bored and all you need is a piston kit to compete the top end.
Check pinion runout and if less than .003", don't worry about the lower unit. Any crank can be tweaked but if you are starting out with a stable lower unit, you can monitor pinion runout and if it starts to grow, you will know there is a problem and you can address it then. Why borrow trouble?

Can't comment on the heads, know nothing about Torque Inc. I will suggest that since Hillside is providing the top end, why not work with them on the heads for a complete package?
