What I'm experiencing is first I have a belt drive 1.75 belt primary. When cranking over it sounds like motor locks up I let off starter button hit it again it fires up. It does this a lot now the belt shredded $130 for new belt. Help what could be problem before I put belt back on.

 

Can you retard the timing a little and see if it makes a difference? Remove inspection cover, scribe a line up the side of timing plate/inner nose cone for reference, and turn timing plate 1/8" counter clockwise (about 3 degrees). If this doesn't help, check starting fuel.
