Default SE204 w/ .030 gaskets

Morning, all.

Does anybody know if the base circle on the SE204 cams are small enough to run a .030 head gasket with stock pushrods? Or would you simply recommend adjustables either way? I'm not planning on milling my heads so as not to need to install CRs. Just want them ported, and to bump up the compression ratio a bit to take better advantage of the SE204s.

Thanks!

Sam

you can run the 204`s with stock p/rods.how are going going to up the compression without milling the heads? new pistons? ide just mill the heads & use adjustable p/rods (ide use adjustable p/rods either way)

I'd run thinner head gaskets to bump compression. I just didn't know if that, combined with the larger-than-stock base circle of the SE204s would throw the geometry off enough so that I'd have to get adjustable push rods.

the lifters would be able to compensate for a .010 or .015 change in gasket thickness, but like I said, ide use adjustables anyway

No problems running 204's with stock pushrods and .030 head gaskets. I even milled my heads and cylinders .010 each to clean them up so I have an additional .020 milling to go with the .030 gaskets. I also bored my cylinders out from 96' specs to accept a pair of stock 103 pistons.

Also, they work fine without compression releases. Starting my engine is no problem.

The 204's lift is about the same as the H-D stock H.O. cams so they do not put serious stress on the lifters and springs etc.

I've been running this set up for about 6000 miles now. Using an FP3.

Great results.

Special note- Before using MLS head gaskets, check your heads and cylinders for flatness. To avoid sealing problems the surfaces must be perfectly flat and very clean, very clean.
