Default Overlap

I see where HD is increasing the overlap among other specs on the 2014's. Is the overlap what causes the noises the seem to come though the air cleaner when performance cams are added? On a further note; has anyone actually decreased their valve train noise after adding another quarter turn to the pushrod adjustment ? All of my noise is after mid range RPM's with a fairly quiet idle.

1/4 turn extra can help the pushrod chatter. Overlap is when the intake and exhaust valves are open at the same time, larger overlap means better top end power and loopier idle.

the 2014 motors will be 10.1-1 compression, the increase in overlap will allow for a better cylinder fill for better high RPM power (and just more power in general), the higher static compression will keep the corrected compression up,letting it not fall on its face in the low & midrange RPM`s (lots more power there too)

Thanks guys, what causes the " grumble " coming from the AC area when the performance cams are installed? Lift , duration or what. I am asking because it seems that most engines with performance cams have the noise whereas they did not stock. In order to lesson the noise what feature do you keep closer to stock?
Thanks

its a pretty big compliant with the TBW bikes, putting the stock A/C back on is about the only way to mask the noise

As more water-cooling comes(and it will) they'll continue to step up the power, as emmissions has had them handcuffed.

New Harleys come with a multitude of features that are designed to reduce noise levels, so they meet noise regulations. This includes the airbox, which is actually a silencer, plus 'tame' cams, mild ignition timing, exhaust mufflers etc. Changing cams is normally done along with fitting a simple air filter, throwing away the intake silencer, plus retuning the engine. Some of the noise is simply induction roar, some of it is the improved breathing the new cam gives, adding to that roar, in addition tuning will alter and optimise ignition timing. Each of these adds to the aural enhancement, as well as improved performance!
