Question Head Change on 103" Stage IV Kit???

I just ordered a Stage IV kit for my 2013 103" Ultra and the dealer said they were on back order because Harley was changing the design of the SE heads.

Does anyone know what the change is and why they are doing it???

Thanks,

Dave

More than one Stage IV 103 kit; Legal (Stage 4-PN 92500011 and Race (Stage IV-PN92500010). Both have SE CNC Factory ported heads, so I guess both would be on BO?

I'm doing the street legal kit to keep the warranty, dealer install.

I didn't check on the race version.

Well in case anyone else is interested; the only change was in the manufacturer of the heads. No other change.

The "race" version of the kit is supposed to be available; cable operated TB. The street legal kit includes the ETC TB, so maybe the TB is also being changed? Otherwise, if just a head change, why would one kit be available and the other not?

So, where is the new supplier located? Mexico? China? India?

Apparently, there is an issue with the valve spring assembly; top collar to stem seal is five thou LESS than the valve lift with the 259 cams that come with the kit. I was not aware until I started checking but the spring seat pressure for the 259 cams is in excess of 200#.

So, two things I would do if I were you. If the dealer is installing, insist that the top collar to stem dimension be checked and corrected prior to installation. I would also insist on a valve spring change, back to OEM beehives. The heavy seat pressure is going to be noisy and is not really required unless you are a drag racer. If you want a little more seat pressure than the OEM beehives provide you could shim the springs.

Thanks for the info!

Are these the problems with the old kit??? Do you know if it is corrected on the new one?

I have no idea where they are made.

Don't know for sure but think the problem has been around for a while; no fix yet. I would still check and look for a tech bulletin.

Yeah that may be a better idea; the only reason I went with the SE stuff was to keep my warranty. I have the 5 year unlimited mileage warranty.
