With my 551's, I plan to go to a 95 and have head work next fall; will then have the higher compression that Kirby noted!

You don't need geardrives, but as long as your pinion shaft TIR, is at .003" or less, and you have the extra dough, then yes, they are a great upgrade.
One of the reasons I suggested, the 26 cam, is that, IF, you wanted more later, the cam surrounded by say a 98" big-bore kit, with the compression optimised, and some mild head work, is quite a snappy combination.

if your run-out is within spec,by all means go with the geardrive set up,best product to come out for the 99-06 TC`s

Those '07 heads would be an improvement without any work; they flow better than the OEM '02 heads. Combine the heads with a .030" head gasket or not, depending on cam selection, and you will see a nice gain. I used a set of those heads, cleaned up, milled for some compression and a SERDI valve job on a 95" build for a buddy's Deuce. Motor made 104TQ/93HP. No port/polish; compression is your friend.

Of course headwork will make a difference; just depends on how much money you wan to spend.
