05 Wide Glide dies while riding!
Have a 2005 Wide Glide, EFI, 3,000 plus miles. AWESOME bike! While riding one morning, the engine quit, almost like hitting the shutoff switch. I looked at the switch thinking I hit it but it was on "run". Turned it off, then back on, once the fuel pump came on it ran again and did so for the next several hundred miles. No idiot lights came on as far as I remember. Dealer said it might be a loose battery connection but I didn't lose any lights! Then it happened again on another morning, turned switch off then back to "run" and it worked again. Can't remember if I have to hit the starter or not though, it was so sudden I forgot! If it happens again, I am sure I will check for lights cause the engine light should come on as I have tested that by turning off the switch while riding it. Anybody got ideas or have this happen to them??

You may have a slightly loose battery cable, seen it before, it for sure sounds like the fuel pump is loosing power either from the battery or maybe the keyswitch or a loose connection somewhere. Do you get any kind of code? I would for sure get it in to the dealer since it's under warranty and let them scan the ECM to see if it shows the problem. Good luck.

RE: 05 Wide Glide dies while riding!
Wide Glide 05,
I hope you find the solution because I'm having the same problem with an '04 Wide Glide. The shut-down is becoming more and more violent in that it will quit at 60mph and restart - die and restart. This will 'clang' the primary chain and transmission with a terrific jurk, then, angin and again. It has quit at a stop light. The funny part is, my son can ride it and not have the problem.
The check engine light will light briefly and then will indicate an historic code by illuminating the check engine light for eight seconds after the normal off during starting the engine. This means that the ECM has dectected a fault too and the code indicated an intermittent CKP - so I replaced it. Still have the problem. Took it to the 'dealer' service department - what a joke! They say that it is just fine, that the ECM has cleared up the problem because the code is historic. DA, I thought an intermittent is a constant historic code - the reason for DTC0373 in the first place. They said don't bring it back to them unless the check engine light stays on!
I have almost totally disassembled the bike looking for wiring problems. The regulator was replaced, the handlebars were torn apart looking for a pinched or wires smashed together - nothing - same problem. I totally disassembled the electrical caddie and fuse holders looking for corrosion, poorly crimped dontacts - all look fine. After each search, I will run the bike for a while to see if I may have 'hit it' but the engine will quit on me in spite of all this love and affection.
The crank shaft position sensor was replaced, since the DTC code indicated that it was intermittent. As I said, the voltage regulator was replaced. The fuel has been replaced a few times and the tank inspected, the speedo/tach has been checked, the dumb assed tail light assembly has been checked, cleaned and weather proofed from UNDER the fender too! The wiring appears fine, but I sense that a rough road has an effect and may initiate a shut-down....???
I'm just about ready to dump this bike for a new one but I have worked to get it just right for my use. I don't have the time or inclination to 'train another one'! When she performs, she does it so good and sounds like she enjoys it as well. I like the bike.
This bike is basically stock; that is, with no engine work at all and only the installation of SE ll slip-ons and the SE/K&N breather assembly.
I'm going to try another dealer rather than spend any more time or throw any more parts at it. God forbid the ECM has failed...
I'll post here if I find a solution.....Wide Glide 05
Thanks all,
Bill Clemens
