Angry Burnt Piston

2005 Roadking with 60000 miles. Start slowing down on freeway speeds few times. Finally gave up on me.. Oil dip stick blew off and oil dripping from air cleaner.
I had to tow it to the mechanic.
He pulled the top and found a burnt front cylinder. He think I ran too lean.
I had D&D fat cat 2 in to 1, Air cleaner kit, S&S 510 gear drive kit , PC3 USB with Thunder header 2 in to 1 map on it.
According to mechanic need to clean the whole engine, (20 hours of labor). plus parts.
He told me that I have a option to upgrade to 95 cubic inch.
I use this bike for long distance rides. Is this a good upgrade?
Thank you.

To rebuild your engine you need new pistons and a rebore, plus complete strip, gaskets etc. So going to a larger bore is a quick and easy alternative. Ask for a price comparison to see if you want to spend the extra. Most of us would probably be tempted to go 95"!

Yes, I am waiting for his price list. He told me it's about 20 hr of labor to strip and put it together. I am planing to put a 95 ci kit.
Thank you for the input.

Yeah - for what needs to be done after burning a hole in a piston, a 95" is a definite. Love mine.
Check out T-man performance for some awesome kits for a great runner, especially since you've basically got everything you need to run it. I'd recommend a larger intake, like an HPI 51 or 55 to make use of all that extra space!

How about the gas mileage on 95ci, per gallon.. I had about 40 MPG . I use this bike for long distance rides. 500+ miles per day trips.
(i have a V-rod, Change my cams to stage2, lost about 10 MPG. Dropped from 38MPG to 28 to 30 MPG..
Thanks..

I now have a 107" in my Glide, having started out life as an 80". Gas mileage is only a little lower, despite a lot more performance available. Your poor mileage could be down to poor set-up. Once run in I personally would have it set up on a dyno, which should optimise performance and give you good mileage. If your shop does dyno runs it is worth talking that through with them.

Bore your cylinders, install SE cast flat top pistons and, if budget will allow, send the heads out for a "street" port, ala BigBoyz or go beyond that with another head porter; two come to mind and both just happen to be site sponsors. Set compression for the 510 cams and get her tuned. I suspect that the map you had loaded was the reason for your problems; avoid maps, get her tuned. You are there, might as well do it once and do it right.

The mileage on my 95" build was not affected, on 500 mile days, I would see 42-44mpg. Wasn't much better in stock configuration; certainly wasn't as much fun to ride.
