Default exhaust bolt?

not sure of what the exact partname is, but the bolt that actually holds the pipe tp the motor. how bad is it if you might have stripped that nut. i must have taken my exhaust on and off 4-5 times over the last few weeks because i was trying to paint different parts and this last time when i went to take the one nut off it difficult to take off. then when i went tp put it back on it goes on what seems like maybe one thread but grab enough to screw on all the way. i am not top sure if it was me or if i screwed up bad time, but i am pretty sure i just made a pretty expensive oops. any help or suggestions at all are appreciated.

depends...did you strip the nut or the stud?

It sounds like the stud to me. They are not too expensive...Getting it out might not be fun...

The studs are replaceable - there are even aftermarket stainless ones out there. Soak it really well with blaster first - double nut if possible or a good set of vise grips I guess.

So are the threads of the nut deformed? Or is it the threads on the stud in the engine the are deformed?

I'm thinking big vice grips on the stud...but itmay beloctited in so you better PM Shovelhead Bob to get the proper removal technique......you should get new exhaust crush gaskets as well if you have had the pipes off that much. Then try some never seize on the new nuts as well.

Please post your results with this problem.

First I'd try threading the nut on another bolt (5/16-24)to see if the flange nut is f'ed or not. If it's ok I think I'd try carefully chasing the stud threads before I started pulling it out of the head...good luck!
