Default Carb and ignition advice.

Ok, let me get a disclaimer out before I start. Im fairly new to the HD world. My bike is a 04 fatboy. (carb)

With that being said, I picked up a brand new complete S&S Super stock hot set up last week for a great price. As far as I know my bike is a stock stage 1 88. I plan to run the superstock heads with S&S 3 7/8 pop ups and 10.4:1. It will have S&S 585 gear drive cams. Im currently running a Bassani road rage 2-1 shorty. I think this combo with a good tune should make about 100/105 give or take. My question is what carb and ignition wuold fit my combo. Im thinking a Mikuni 42 and a Daytona twin tec ignition. Any input would be appreciated.

Daytona twin tech is excellent for Carb bikes - I also like the Mikuni better than S&S carbs -- which I find to a little finicky

DTT is a good ignition choice. The Mikuni is a waste of money IMHO. The CV is a work horse, will make more torque in the low and midrange but will give up a couple of HP at high end.

JMHO but I would sell the S&S heads and have the OEM heads ported. Sell the S&S heads, save the money you would spend on the Mik carb and invest in head work, A Yost kit and re-jet will help the CV carb.

Im under the impression that the CV gives up at around 95-100 hp or so. You dont feel like the motor is leaving some hp/TQ on the table if I stay with the CV and the motor is capable of more with another carb?

You are on the cusp at 100-105HP; right at the point where the CV40 could be a limiting factor. I am partial to the CV for a variety of reasons but either carb is a good choise. The best advice I can give is to get whatever heads you plan to use on a flow bench and select a carb that will flow about 5%-10% more than the heads.

If using the CV, make sure you use the S&S spigot-style manifold offered for that port ID match.

Why not use the 44mm cv and have a bad *** carb that will support the horsepower you're going to make

Thanks for the help guys,..... I guess any way I go I cant go wrong. My CV has been reworked and runs like a champ at all altitudes. I may stick with that for awhile. Both of my local shops/ tuners suggested the CV. They said a few ponies will be left but torque and dependability will be very good.
