Default S&S EVO Engine Cases vs Stock

Hi all,

I just bought a project bike that has an S&S Evo 1340 engine. The engine cases are badly damaged - looks like the previous owner hit a rock or something and the bottom of the cases completely broke out.

I'm looking around for replacement cases now. I wanted to know if I could use stock cases with the rest of the parts from the engine (assuming there's no damage to the crankshaft, etc). Can anyone tell me - if everything else is S&S, can stock Harley cases be used?

Thanks for any input.

Nick

I called S&S this morning and one of the techs there told me that, as long as the engines are the same size, I should be able to use stock cases with the rest of the S&S parts. If anyone has any input on what I may need to watch out for, I'm all ears.

Thanks,
Nick

What year factory cases? 1989-90 had problems with crankshaft sealing allowing engine oil into the primary. Most of the years up until the last Evo's had rear base gasket sealing problems. I'd spring for S&S cases.

Check the prices of both. Frankly I can't see the point of using anything other than S&S cases, if the engine is a genuine S&S one. If the cases are damaged, there is a real possibility there may be further damage inside as well.

Harley stock EVO cases had problems cracking between the oil hole for the front lifter block to where the rise for the cylinder deck is. Seen it many times.
