Default cam choices

i plan on tearing down the black bitch after the first of the year for cosmetic and performance upgrades. i plan on boring the cylinders to 95-98, also plan on porting the heads and adding cams, along with new intake and thunder header. i've narrowed my choice for the cams to the andrews 37, 54, and 55. was wondering what's everyones opinion on each and what would you recomend.

thanks
paul

TMan 555 Torkster or 590, S&S 570 or 585. But not knowing how you ride, hard to be definitive. The new Andrews 57 might be a better choice than the other Andrews cams you listed but I don't think it is available for '06 and earlier models. It is identical to the 37 with more lift. The 37 is probably the best all around cam available for a 95"/98" build; certainly one of the best. You might consider the 37 with a set of 1.725 ratio rockers. Not the .560" lift of the 57 but about .535". Just a thought; if you are leaning toward the 37 since you say you have narrowed your choice to the 37, 54 and 55.

Having said that, not knowing how you ride makes it hard to be definitive; riding style would determine whether the 37 would be more suitable than the 55.

2 mid-top end cams that come to my mind, if in fact that is what your after, are a Wood 8, or an S&S .585.
In a 98"er, the 8 will have you tapping on the 120 hp door.

The 37 is not really a top end cam. I know, Andrews says it is a "broad torque" cam, and it is but in a 95" build it will flatten out between 4000-4500 at 100+TQ and then drop off; the 54 much the same. The 55 is the most top end of the three you listed but it will not have the broad torque band of the other two. If you like to shift and keep the engine spinning above 4000, that is where the 55 will be happy.

If you haven't considered TMan or S&S, you might take a look at some dyno charts before you pull the trigger. JMHO

What kind of torque curve would these cams have vs a woods 6 or S&S 570?

The Wood 8 will carry more torque out of the gate than the S&S .585, and have the strike of the 6, or .570, but will continue to march out the back door, set-up, and tuned correctly, generally manufacturing 18-20 more hp than the engines cubic inch, up to about 113".
You'd want to run the 8G, in place of the early silent chain/tensioners.
