Default S&S EZ Start Cams at altitude

This may seem like a strange question, but here goes. I am considering the S&S 551 EZ start cams for my 2005 FLHTC. On one of the other forums, there was a discussion as to how cams with this design would work at altitude; some seemed to think that you may not have enough compression to start the motor.

I am far from being a cam genius, so, thought I would ask here. While I live in the flatlands of Minnesota, I do take 2-3 trips per year to the mountains - Colorado, Montana, Wyoming. Would hate to install new cams that won't work at altitude.

Thanks for any advice/comments [other than this being a stupid question]!

That's not a stupid question - strange, but not stupid! Joking aside I really can't see how those cams would fail to work. They do much the same job as compression releases, but without machining the engine and mine worked fine in the Austrian Alps and French Vosges Mountains! S&S are only a State away from you, so you could almost pop over and ask them face-to-face! I would certainly phone and ask. They have been great answering my queries.

"Strange" probably is a better classification for the question. I did send a message to S&S, they just haven't responded yet.

While I don't know anybody with the EZ start cams a lot of us run compression releases here in Colorado. Our bikes start fine with them and they absolutely help even at this altitude. I can't see the EZ start cams not working just as well here also.

Thanks for the responses.

Prodrag - is the 551 EZ going to give me what I want - more torque on the low to mid-range in an 88"; did a boost for passing
