Question 106" 110HP 1987 Lowrider FXR Should I buy it?

So I sold my sporty, and I am planning on buying a 1987 FXR Lowrider with a 106" stroker motor, and has 110RWHP on a dyno sheet. HE said his good friend and builder made the bike and that it will do those figures on 91 octane, and 117hp on 110 VP octane. Bike has 17,xxx miles, motor has 2000 miles since build.
Claims the thing runs mint and is selling to purchase a truck. He only wants $5500 for it and I am hooked.
What I wanna know is, Is it gonna be reliable? Has anyone else had 106" FXR? And am I looking at a good deal?
Any info would be awesome!! Thanks for the help guys!

It's probably a great deal, if the engine builder did a good job. If it was built right it should be pretty reliable. Those FXRs are light and handle extremly well. Still it's an older bike with a hot rod motor and it would be best if you had some mechancal experience. It probably won't be totally trouble free. The trade off is it will be a blast to ride!

The way a 106" Evo is built is using a stroker crank plus large bore cylinders, with the crankcases bored out. I looked into doing that myself, before buying an S&S 107". The best way was to use aftermarket cases, so take a close look. The stock factory cases didn't have as much meat on them as much later ones. That S&S carb may be a clue, so look to see if it has their cases. If it does you could be looking at a good purchase.

I would have to have much more information before considering a purchase and whether or not the asking price was fair.

As grbrown points out, what is the build platform; OEM cases and aftermarket cylinders and pistons? If yes, what cylinders and what pistons?

OEM heads that have been worked or say, S&S heads?

What cam set?

I would want to have a compression and leakdown test done to verify the condition of the top end and confirm compression figures.

The dyno sheet should show TQ and HP.

You get the idea. You could be on to a good purchase or you could be about to buy a money pit; you have to do the due diligence. Even if you confirm that the bike is sound, I would not pay the asking price just as a matter of principal.
