Default Charcoal Canister?

My 98 FXD is a california model and therefore had a plastic canister mounted to the lower front portion of the frame. on a road trip a couple weeks go a truck lost a 2x4 in front of me. i went over it but it was bouncing when i hit it and it bounced up and smashed the plastic canister to smithereens. i took if off on the side of the road. now, there wer 3 lines to this thing, (2) larger ones, maybe 1/4" in dia. and (1) smaller one, maybe half the size. the previous owner disconnected one of the large lines/fittings that went from the canister to the carb before i got it. the other large tube went to the gas tank with a check valve. the 3rd, small line, goes under the tank and i am assuming ends at the carb. in colorado, none of the bikes have this piece of equipment, and i can't spend the money now to replace it. my question is: how should i terminte the lines, or should i. like i said on the one to the tank and the one to the carb are still hooked up. does the tank need to vent, and if so, do non-california-emission bikes vent to the open air? is the thin line from the carb also a vent? seems like there is already a vent on the base of the carb. should i just cap this line off. i rode it home with both lines open to the air, can't really tell any difference, but i want to make sure i am not doing some damage or breathing stuff i shouldn't be. any help is greatly appreciated.

thanks
dan

if I remember right one goes to the tankand cannister I left that one on and routed it down so if anything comes out it goes below the bike it originaly went to cannister the other big one went to the back of the air cleaner the small one goes to a vacuum port on the carb if you block the hole on the a/c and the vacuum port you can throw every thing else away including the check valve

I have a similar issue. I want to install a screaming Eagle Air Cleaner Kit and disconnect the Charcoal Canister assembley. Did the solution above work for you or do I need to do something else? I hope everything worked out for you.

Thanks,
Haywood
