Default 2006 Heads on an earlier TC?

Hi guys, I'm a pretty new member and am hoping to get a little insite on using a 2006 head on an earlier TC engine. Specifically, I want to be able to benefit from the increased flow characteristics of the heads, ability to use larger cams from the newer valve spring design.

So far so good but I understand there is a difference in the flange that the intake mounts to which is part no. 26993-06. I am told by those who have done it the 2006 head swap by itself would be a wortwhile improvement as the pre-06 heads flow 200 +/- CFM and the 2006+ heads flow 225+ with no other changes.

My mod will be a modest build designed to improve performance and torque. I have a set of 9.5:1 JE forged pistons mated to a set of 95" jugs by Hanlons, SE 258 cams, billet rocker boxes, CV carb by Dale's Killer Carbs in SoCal...

My goal is not max speed or horsepower. I've been there and done that, and I've regretted it in every case. I hope to see 95/95 from 95" for my Deuce althought I expect the results to be a little higher. My ultimate goal is good (80+ hp / tq) througout the usable rpm range for how I ride, 3900-6000 rpm.

Any thoughts? Anyone done a mild build like this (themselves)?? Am I missing anything (adj. pushrods, gaskets, etc. not withstanding). What does anyone think of the later oiling system from HD?

Good plan but a couple of things you might want to consider.

Have the heads worked over, i.e., new guide seals and a good SERDI (multiple angle) valve job and put it back together with a .030" Cometic MLS head gasket. Shave just enough off to set the chamber volume to 9.6 static and, of course, equalize chambers.

85 the SE258 cams in favor of the Andrews 37; probably the best all around cam ever. The 2568lift is .569" and those heads, even though the do flow better, they sign off at .500" lift.

I have built a couple like this and they consistently make 100+TQ and mid 90sHP. Those builds were EFI but there is no reason why a carbed bike won't make the same numbers in the hands of a good tuner. Exhaust is important, you did not mention what you were using. Nor did you mention if and adjustable ignition was part of the build plan.

The later hydro tensioner/roller chain kit with the upgraded oil pump is definitely worth doing if in the budget.

It sounds like its too late now but since you were boring, why not bore to 98" instead of 95"? I wouldn't spend the money just to jump from 95" to 98" but if starting from scratch, why not pick up and extra 3-4TQ/HP for the same cost? JMHO
