Default Unusual Engine Noise

2011 CVO Road Glide.Under full throttle I hear what sounds like marbles coming from the engine area. Bike has 10500 mi. Its only under full throttle and seems to start around 3500 rpm. Bike runs great, just the noise. Any ideas? I know my 88 ci never sounded like this.

Are you running 93 octane?

Diagnosing noises over the internet is very much a hit or miss proposition, but the noise you describe sounds like pinging to me. It's really not all that unsual and actually quite common.

If in fact that's what it is, the most likely cause is ignition timing. If it's something that you first noticed after fueling up, it could be sub-par fuel. There are other possible causes, but these are the two most likely.

I imagine its the fuel or tune...both easy fixes so we will see.

What your describing sounds like spark knock, or better known as detonation.
I'd have that checked over via dyno tune.

My brothers 2011 RK has been doing the same thing. It has driven him crazy trying to find out what it is. He is taking it to a dealer with a dyno to fix the problem.

Did it just start? Do you have a fuel controller?

Good luck getting the results with a dealer dyno... hope it isn't typical. Better bet would be to find a reputable indy tuner.

Pinging or detonation... tune is the correct answer either way. The bike will run much better, likely get better mileage, and run cooler to boot I'd imagine.
