Default Evo Cases

Anyone know if HD will make a set of evolution cases with numbers matching my original 88 cases? My original 88 motor has been sitting in boxes in pieces for 12ish years with cracked cases and I'm thinking bout finally fixing it.

where is the crack? if its on the O-ring lip for the Inner primary there's an easy fix. James Gaskets makes a kit (jgi-11125-XM and 11125-XMF) J&P carries them. if this isn't what is wrong with your case than i would consider the factory "rebuild" program... if im not mistaken they stamp the original numbers into a new case if yours is trashed.

Harley offers a factory Evo rebuild programme, through their dealers. The engine you get back will be bone stock. I suspect any crankcase sets will also only be available through a local dealer. You have no choice but to start by asking there.

It's cracked right on top on the surface the jugs sit on, from the outside straight across to the spigot holes, in more than 1 spot . I know about the reman program but the heads were ported years ago by zippers along with axtell angle top pistons, etc. The motor isn't even going back in the bike, kinda want to try my hand at rebuilding it. It would just be nice to have matching numbers in case my kid wants to sell it after I'm dead. I'll never sell it.

The only place you are likely to be able to do that is a dealer. Only takes a phone call to confirm!

some of the early evo cases had a porosity problem that led to cracks your speaking of, i'd say your case is trashed.. they come up on craigslist frequently owner usually wanting 1500 bucks for the whole motor. but i would look into a set of S&S cases personally.

You can buy new cases from the dealer, they will send in part of your old case, and the factory will send a new crankcase set with the original serial number.

Thats what I was hoping to hear Dan, thanks. Thinking of rebuilding it just for the hell of it, but, I know if I do that I'll start looking for a frame to throw it in, it's a sickness isn't it.
