Default 88ci to 96ci Jug swap?

My buddy is upgrading the 96ci engine in his 2010 street glide and will be replacing his Jugs et al...

I have an 2004 88ci Road King. He is offering me his parts, but from what I have been reading the 88 and 96 have the same bore - I suspect the difference is in the crank and pistons?

So, I guess my question is - what needs to be upgraded in an 88ci engine to convert it to a 96? Would I get any value out of his "very low milage" parts?

An 88 and a 96 have the same bore. So swapping jugs will do nothing for you. The 96 has a longer stroke.
Now if your buddy was giving you 103 jugs and pistons then you would get 95 out of an 88. The large bore/short stroke really winds up fast. My buddy has an 02 cop bike with a 95 and stomps on my street bob.
You aren't gaining anything by using 96 jugs on an 88. You will end up with an 88

Yeah - my quick research confirms that. So the 103 Jugs / pistons would be the recommended upgrade route? No value out of the 96 crank / cam?

Penney wise dollar poor - his parts really don't bring me any value?

The 95/103 jugs are interchangeble, but the pistons aren't. You need pistons designed for the 4" stroke crank.

The 96" jugs are not a "Direct Replacement" for 88" jugs. The jugs on the 96" have a -07 part number. (17458-07/17459-07).
The bore is the same but the cylinders do have slight differences. Caution must be exercised.

Want to surprise your bud?
Bore your cyliders to 98".
Install a set of Andrews 26's
Set compression @ 9.6.
What would ice the cake on that would be the addition of some minor head work, in paticularly to open that exhast port on those early heads, to enhance hp, and dump heat.

In spite of what Utra89Rider thinks, the cylinders are interchangeable but not the pistons as B'dude has pointed out. None of the other parts have any value. You would have to make major modifications to the drive side of an early model to use the longer stroke crank from a later model; just not worth the time and expense.

The only value in the cylinders would come if he was to give them to you so you could have them bored and fitted to new pistons; about $300, plus labor, for nice increase in displacement that would be worthwhile.
