Default Piston ID

Fellas, I need some help ID'ing my first Harley build.
I picked up this 1340 S.C. engine and the dealer said he cannot tell me the year of manufacture (Huh?). Anyway it was supposed to be good but upon further inspection I found the circlip for one of the pistons had disappeared and I had the biggest, deepest gouge in the cylinder wall I had ever seen. I got lucky and picked up a pair of std bore cylinders for right money (the originals were 30 over) and proceded to buy the wrong pistons (wrong squish profile to the heads) so I'm here to identify the pistons I removed, get the date of the engine manufacture and see if I can find the right ones this time.

The number on the piston is 22768-98

I have read the "98" is supposed to be the year of manufacture, possibly.

Any info and clarification would be helpfull.

Thanks,

In Harley speak, the -98 means that was the year that part was introduced, not when it was actually made. Some parts are made for many years.

I googled that number and found this:

These 10.5:1 forged pistons, when used with Screamin’ Eagle 1340 Cylinder Heads, are designed to produce high compression ratios for full race applications. Kits include pins, clips and rings. For race application only. For use only with Screamin’ Eagle Performance Cylinder Heads ’84-99 Evolution 1340-equipped carburetted models. (Not for use with stock Evolution 1340 Cylinder Heads.) NOTE: Always check piston-to-valve clearance with modified dome pistons and non-stock cam shafts. 22767-98 10.5:1 ratio

So it seems possible you have SE heads? It would be worth looking more closely at what you have there!
